Holy shit. Hi five for literally everything. Wings, shrimp and grits, chicken thighs.... Hot honey. On point.
A nice sit-down place, they did not have a wait and we were able to get seated immediately when we went at around 7pm on a Sunday. It was peach week, so we had to get the peach soup, and try their shrimp and grits. The waitstaff also recommended that we get the wings, which is a James Beard award winning recipe. They said that the fried chicken is more of a traditional southern fried chicken, and that the wings are breaded differently, and uses a distinct, slightly stinky sauce. The shrimp and grits were lovely, they had a solid crust of cheese on top. Peach soup was great, probably not worth what we paid for it, but great nevertheless. The wings were quite nice, the sauce was slightly pungent but not offensive to my nose, with a strong aftertaste of honey and notes of something fruity , and was earthy and spiced. I would still prefer a korean fried chicken with soy garlic, but this wasn't bad. Entirely unrelated to the meal, the bathroom situation in this restaurant is something else, though... They have two single occupancy bathrooms, one of which was occupied by someone for most of my meal, and there was a constant line outside the door. I noticed that one of the servers seemed to need the bathroom pretty badly, and every time the line dissipated, she would come by and check the bathrooms, but there would always be someone inside both of them. There is obviously not enough bathroom capacity for the restaurant. I'm quite glad that they had provided wet napkins for us to wipe our hands with after eating the chicken.
I have been a regular here going on 6 years. This place feels like the definition of comfort. The staff treat you as a family member. I can't stress enough how the amazing the staff here is. Their food is top notch; from the chicken thighs, the burger, their rotation of different fish, and the consistency of their James beard award winning wings makes this place stand out. Their building is an old bank and to dine in the vault is truly a special experience. If you can please visit them and experience this place as it truly is a glorious gem within Savannah!!!
Cotton and Rye had a delicious menu offering. We loved everything we tasted. We also spoke to the tables next to us asking what they ordered because everything on their plates also looked delicious. The service was great. The cocktails were tasty! The bathrooms were nice and clean. The reason for 4 stars: The restaurant was pretty small with a larger outdoor dining area that they tried to close in with fans and plastic walls. I appreciate this effort, BUT we were seated in a corner that was hard to get in and out of. There were flies everywhere! We were swatting at flies our whole meal. Overall, we will return, but now we know about the seating situation and can make a request to be seated inside or near a fan.
Came back to visit and was pleasntly able to try many more things on the menu. we ordered: Chicken wings: 100/10. So well seasoned, hot, and delicious. Serisouly some of the best ive had. Burger and fries: 7/10, the special sauce was super delicious, the burger just wasnt special Shrimp and grits: 9/10, definetly not the best in savannah as claimed, but delicious nontheless market fish (battered catfish): 6/10, lacking flavor, cooked well Chicken thighs, potato cracklins, mac and cheese: 10/10 WOW! the least expensive entree, and boy was it outstanding. The mac and cheese is phenomenal, and it pairs so well with everything on the plate. Savannah red rice: 10/10, wow! super flavorful and paired well with everything on our plates black eyed peas: 10/10 very flavorful cheesy grits: 6/10, a little bland unless paired with other stuff. Overall, our server was so sweet and attentive and the food was spectacular. I will definetly be returning!
Okay, Cotton & Rye is AMAZING. Based on previous reviews and photos, I decided to make a reservation for our party of 8 for my husband's birthday dinner. (Very glad I made this pretty far in advance because they book up quickly.) We walked in and were immediately seated and had a truly phenomenal server. Some of us shared a bottle of wine, others got beers - everything came quickly and without any issue. We asked for recommendations on appetizers and main courses because it was just so hard to decide -- everyone loved everything and we all were very happy with our decisions. The wings were *chefs kiss* and my husband was obsessed with his steak. We ate way too much (as you can see from photos) and enjoyed every bite of our desserts, too. Ambiance: not too fancy, very chill, pretty; we were on the covered/enclosed patio area but inside was really nice (our table was too big at our reservation time). We felt very comfortable and were able to joke around with our server and get some recommendations for late night drinks & music, too.
My childhood friend that had visited Savannah before me recommended Cotton & Rye. Her recommendations never disappoint so we found ourselves here for dinner Saturday 3.23.24 5pm. Service was perfect from the initial greeting of the hostess right thru the entire dinner. Patrick was our server. The interior is clean and attractive. Cocktail selection was varied. I had a hard time choosing. The Chamomile Corpse was so bright and divine. I loved it. Food was spectacular. I never eat fried chicken but I had a feeling I should at Cotton & Rye. I was right. We could not fit dessert. Highly recommend.
Our dining experience at Cotton & Rye was definitely the highlight of our weekend trip to Savannah. After a full day of eating heavy and drinking sugary boozy drinks, we enjoyed the refreshing and delicious meal at Cotton & Rye. Parking looked daunting but we found a spot in the open parking lot. Drink menu is limited but I loved my cocktail - the Rabbits Don't Wear Glasses was super interesting - nothing I've ever had in a gin cocktail before. And the Ooh Look, Watermelon was super refreshing and fruity. We started with apps to share - the crispy chicken wings & the dill cured salmon. I love how all the flavors came together in one tasty bite in the salmon board. BUT THOSE CHICKEN WINGS?!? Holy crap. So freaking delicious - crispy and saucy and amazing. Do NOT miss out on ordering these. Entrees: fried chicken thighs were crispy and the accompanying hot honey sauce is perfection. Also loved the trout and pork ragu. Ok did we not like anything? Nope. Dessert was the Georgia Peaches & Cream and the perfect way to end the meal. If you haven't been to Cotton & Rye in Savannah, ADD THIS ONE TO YOUR LIST!
One of the best meals that we had in Savannah! Although it was the furthest out from where we were staying, Cotton & Rye was worth it. Everyone is so nice and service is very fast! We made a reservation and got to come right in when they opened. You can dress up or more casual- it is not an uptight dress code. There is outdoor dining that is lined with plastic drapes and indoor dining. Outdoor dining has fans and it's very comfortable! They have a large drink menu! Shrimp & Grits starter- 10/10 Absolutely delicious! They baked it like a Mac and cheese and the flavors were delicious. Make sure you order it. Award Winning Chicken Wings - 10/10! The wings were crispy and flavorful! They were not too spicy but they had a great balance between sweet and savory. This is a must try! Get the wings!!! They are so good, but they are mildly spicy. Very satisfied and will be back! The waiter graciously split our chicken thighs and mac and cheese order into two plates for sharing. The mac and cheese was to die for. Absolutely loved the vinegary side of greens. I wasn't a fan of the rye cornbread, just skip it. Would love to return next time we are in town
It was so good, I wanted to review this restaurant ASAP. GO, YOU MUST! Everything from the welcoming when you walk in, to the leaving the building was on point. Really great service all around. The food was nothing short of spectacular. I had the panzenella cesar and trout, my husband had the shrimp bisque and roast. Really, the best we have ever tasted for everything. We both had the signature Old Fashioned, and that didn't disappoint either. Again, Go You Must!
